1907 Stojanow, Radiechow, Poland

Stojaniv (Ukrainian: Стоянів ; Russian: Стоянов Stojanow ; Polish: Stojanów ) is a village in the north of the Ukrainian Lviv Oblast.

My grandfather on my father‘s side immigrated to Canada at the age of 16-19 (he allegedly lied saying he was older to come) and was born in a small farming town – the village of Stoyanow – it is located in the north of Galicia and borders the Volyn region.

The first written mention dates back to 1501. Before World War II, it had the status of a town.

From 1772 to 1918 it belonged to Austrian Galicia under its Polish name Stojanów.

After the end of the First World War, the town became part of Poland (in the Tarnopol Voivodeship, Radziechów CountyStojanów Gmina).

During the Second World War, it was occupied by the Soviet Union from September 1939 and then by Germany from the summer of 1941 to 1944 , when the town was incorporated into the Galicia District.

After the end of the war, the village was annexed to the Soviet Union , where it became part of the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of present-day Ukraine since 1991.

The Passenger Log of my grandfather‘s arrival in Canada notes he is Ukrainian in Race and speaks Ukrainian.
