791 West King Edward
In the 1940’s my great grandfather Gottlieb Klotz sold his 3 farm lands in Saskatchewan, Canada and moved to Vancouver British Columbia. He purchased 791 West King Edward, Vancouver, BC. 791 W King Edward Ave is a 2,935 square foot house with 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
After Gottlieb Klotz passed away the house was willed to my grandmother Walburga and my grandfather John Doduk, who owned the Pacific Clothing Co. Ltd. A clothing manufacturing company that employed 30 people at that time.
My family lived in South Cambie area between 1950s to 2005.
My grandfather Gottlieb Klotz appears to have had the house (owned) before he died in 1952.
My grandparents inherited the home as they had lived there a few years prior with him. According to https://bccd.vpl.ca/ which is Vancouver Public Library‘s collection of digitized British Columbia city directories dates from 1860 up to and including 1955 – there is listings from 1950 – 1955 for my grandparents at this address. And one listing for 1949 for Gottlieb Klotz at this house. Kasper and Valentine Klotz are relatives in Vancouver – prior to Gottlieb’s arrival.
1953
According to this 1953 Voters Registry, my grandparents Wally and John were all ready renting out rooms in the house. Something my grandmother continued to do even after John’s death in 1973.
1995 to 1997
When my grandmother Walburga Doduk became to ill to live alone and moved in the German-Canadian Care Home – I moved in the house to maintain it and look after the renter in the basement.
I lived at 791 West King Edward from early 1994 until summer of 1997.
It last sold on November 20, 1997 for $420,000 – after my grandmother passed away in December 1996.
